Will anybody be attending the NFB Nnational convention this year?

It's free, and you can do whatever sessions you want. You can listen to rumors, or make your own decisions. No organization is perfect, but I personally have benefited a lot from the organized blind movement.

In what way have you benefited if you don't mind me asking? like i stated in another reply i haven't heard many things about the NFB so I don't have any negative or positive thoughts on them, i know that organizations can be flawed especially trying to advocate for a specific cause that has a lot of diversity in it.

It may help that I'm also in the access technology industry, but networking, connections, job leads, mentorship (both giving and receiving), collective advocacy, etc.
That last point is also very important to me. For example, in Michigan, our affiliate just successfully got the Secretary of State to provide accessible absentee ballots for elections. That likely wouldn't have happened with one person trying that on their own.

You didn't reply to anyone.
Sal0170 [OP]0 points3y ago
A busy schedule and shitty internet is to blame, sorry you felt so bothered by my lack of interaction.
CloudyBeep1 points3y ago
What I meant was that your comment was in response to another person, but you didn't directly reply to them.
Sal0170 [OP]2 points3y ago
I now understand what you're saying, but i don't know how to fix it, unfortunately using Reddit with my phone vs my computer screen reader is way different so i tend to reply when and how i can. For example now i had to go to my laptop to reply to this I assume directly but my phone hasn't been giving me the reply option lately.

What the hell even happens at these NFB conventions? I've heard there a nightmare, so I've always steered clear of all things to do with NFB, but I recently saw a post where someone said there basically an excuse to party? What I thought they were mostly about technology or overpriced blind specific gadgets I personally would have no use for lmao. Maybe once this pandemic dies down I'll check one out.

So my dad once drove me five hours or so, so he went to the convention with me and we saw a play about louis Braille, and a few inspirational speakers, and did some Braille book swapping. One of the better memories I have with the old man.

Haven't been before don't plan on starting now with the world in the state it is.
Sal0170 [OP]2 points3y ago
I have never personally attended one either but I see your point
RJHand1 points3y ago
I have not and I swore I would not ever attend one. This covid things gives me a better excuse too rather than trying to find a nice way of saying I've heard bad things....
Sal0170 [OP]2 points3y ago
Oh, I don't think *I've* heard anything really bad about the NFB although i don't really talk to many visually impaired /blind people about it. i can respect your choice not to attend though!
