Learning ukulele if you’re blind (self.Blind)
submitted by Readinghood_13
A friend of mine is trying to learn ukulele. She’s a beginner, she just got it today. If it helps she’s completely blind and has been since birth. I told her about this community and that I’d ask if anyone had any advice or any good resources she could use? She has some musical experience, she’s in choir and plays the piano. She’s going to be Learning it with her sister who is sited so she won’t be doing it on her own, but I still wanted to ask.

She should look into YouTube videos to learn,. There aren’t websites that are accessible, but by learning chords she could go from there. By having her know what the rhythm is by listening to the original, and then being told the chords, she could figure it out how to play a song once she learns the basic chords

OK. Any channel recommendations?

For learning chords I don’t have one in particular, but once she starts learning songs there are some good tutorials by my buddy $1 has some, as do a lot of other channels. Although I recommend uketabs too because it has a large library of songs

I actually do have a good channel recommendation.
There is a channel called "The Ukulele Teacher" He is really good, and generally his videos are very accessible. Especially his earlier videos.
He is great at explaining each chord in detail, and the finger placement for each chord.
I think she would do well with these videos, at least to get her started.

I do t know if ukulele chords are a part of this site, but a fellow redditor posted this $1 a while back in this forum. Might work for your friend.

My choir teacher taught us ukulele when I was in school. I agree with some of the comments I saw here, YouTube is probably the best place to learn
