Here's a story of irony: There's a show called "In The Dark" about a blind woman and her friends, and it's a soap/crime drama because she is solving the murder of a good friend. It lacked audio description.

I find the streaming services are better than Cable at consistently having audio description.

I think it could be a lot better plus the fact you can’t use it with new technology such as Dolby Atmos I think it’s a disgrace. Why do we have to be left out on the one thing that makes a huge difference for us sound?

I think, when it comes to The availability off audio description, the biggest obstacle is, and always was, the different laws of the different countries. I am living in Germany. We have no audio description for foreign shows at all. That’s why I watch almost everything in English nowadays. We also don’t have access to audio described content from the UK or the US. At least not without a VPN. LOL. For example. Channel 4 in the UK, recently added the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They are still in the middle of adding description to that. There is no way, we would ever have that in my country. Neither in English nor translate it.
Yes, Netflix does a very good job with describing their content. But they can’t do everything. That’s why I’m glad, that websites like audiovault.net exist. I have a Netflix subscription. But, well, not everything, I would like to watch, is on Netflix.

One of the things that really pisses me off about AD is that you can watch a show on one service, and it has AD. Then you go watch it on another service, and it doesn't. Somehow it doesn't carry over. And then you watch a show in one place (say the USA) and go back to the UK and they've done the AD again even though it would be totally fine to just use the American one. That's a stupid duplication of effort in a situation where we all just want as many things done as possible.

I think there could definitely be more work done on providing audio description. I don’t watch any live broadcasts except on YouTube so I can’t speak to that. The streaming services are doing a pretty good job of audio describing all of their original content with Netflix doing the best by far. I do not think there’s enough audio description for pre-recorded content. Even shows that end up on Netflix from other companies do not always come with audio description. I mean, until everything provides audio descriptive, there will still be more work to do imo.

I’m not a huge tv person but there’s quite a lot of audio description in the Uk.
