My Coronaproject: Wasn't Feeling the Folding ID Cane so I Made Myself an ID Wizard's Staff (self.Blind)

i was having a hard time getting used to my ID Cane. So one day i decided to make myself a Wizard's Staff ID Cane.
I found a branch on the side of a rail trail that was reasonably straight. I then peeled off the bark and broke off the remaining little branches. Then i cut off the ends to make it a little over six feet long. I sanded it down and sprayed on a few coats of primer. Sanded it again and sprayed it with white enamel. Then i masked off the bottom portion and sprayed it with red enamel. Finally i put a plastic cane tip on the bottom and made a leather grip for it.
Can't wait to try it out!

I was once so full of myself that I insisted on having a black cane because it made me look less of a cripple. This was possibly true. However, nobody had any idea what the hell was going on, and I nearly go run over.

I think that was part of my motivation. I really only use it for going down stairs and so cars (hopefully) give me a break in the crosswalk.

Thanks for the insight- I've always used a white cane or white with red tip, but sometimes considered the colored tapes available for something fun and personal. Do you think people would be confused if I switched out the red for another color? I could totally see all black being a head scratcher.

Short answer, I have no idea. I totally get why people don't want to have a conventional one, I've been there myself. The ones I use don't have the red part which I have to say I prefer, though I can't see them at all so I'm preferring the idea of it rather than the actuality if you see what I mean. Having asked my significant other, he says that while you are increasing the risk of mistakes being made, anyone with a stick that's mainly white is going to pretty clearly be a blind person but you know, it's a risk factor.

My husband uses a standard white & red cane most of the time. Unfortunately, it glows like a Jedi lightsaber in a lot of photos (especially when taken with a flash). So he got a black cane to use in my brother's wedding.

Your walking down the road with your awesome wizard id staff.
And another blind person is coming the other way.You stop, thump your awesome wizard id staff on the ground and say. You cannot pass or your staff is broken.
It would be completely funny but I was meaning don't do it...
And I can just imagine you doing this crossing the road as well and some impatient car honks.

I am that guy who is against custum canes, but this is kind of cool. I would never use something like this to actually cross a street, but I would keep something like this around for the wow factor.
