Abby Finereader has a free trial.

Disclaimer: I've not used this on the Mac and I can't comment on accessibility support.

I use an app called PDF Pen. They may have a free trial, not sure. Essentially, open the PDF in PDF pen and it immediately offers the option to OCR the page or the document. I’ve had really good luck with this application.

DocuscanPlus works very well but is not cheap.

Is there a trial by any chance? Or a limited free version of some kind? Anything to try out?
