Interview process (self.Blind)
submitted by greens-s
Hello everyone, someone who is blind ask me about wearing shades during the interview. My student has a noticeable eye condition and feels self-conscious about it. What would you guys recommend about this?

As long as the sunglasses aren't outlandish, then I would say go for it as well. Yes, they are slightly distracting, but it help avoid the "What's wrong with your eyes" question. If he has a white cane, it does make it a little more understandable.

That’s a good way to put it, thanks!

Depending on how understanding they are, they could also say the sunglasses cut down some of the light and make it more comfortable. That makes it a more medical-type thing, which employers are less likely to say no to. But it does also depend on the job.

Definitely, I would agree it would be up to the employer. It also depends if she would have disclosed her disability before then, as her disability is visible

I would do it.

Hi, would you share why? That would help me justify why she should keep them on

If I have an eye condition that requires dark glasses, I would wear them.

Thanks!

If I were in that position, I would maybe ask ahead about wearing them and explain why, or I would say something right at the beginning. If you wear the sunglasses and don't explain, that leaves a lot to the imagination.
