What cell phones that are good that have a 5 inch screen or above?

I recommend the iPhone 8+

I don't like older iPhones cause of updates. The 8 will be supported for 2 more years at most, and that's a waste of 300 dollars or however much it is, when for that money you could get a decent Android that's gonna be supported for longer or with a couple hundred more dollars you could buy a newer iPhone.

All of the newer iPhones. There are some good iPhones that aren’t necessarily newer but are still good. However, they won’t have a screen larger than 5 inches.

If you use a screen reader, get an iPhone. If you have some sight and intend to rely on mostly magnification and/or high contrast, You can expand out to anything from Samsung, Google, OnePlus, and Xiaomi if you want something a bit different. LG is kinda meh.

The VA issued me the iphone 8+ for accessability usage.

I am an Android fanboy to the core, but can't really argue with the 8+ in what it does for accessability. I find their features for helping the blind work just a tiiiiiny bit better than Androids version of the 'same' features.

The on screen magnification is a lot faster and simplier to use than Android, and the quick-magnifier you can use with the camera is a godsend when I don't have my hand magnifiers with me which is rather often.

It also has Microsoft's Seeing AI app, which is almost worth it by itself. Why this thing isn't on Android yet will forever bug the hell out of me until they port it.

I have been trying to figure out a good one with big screen also. I have seen a lot of them with above 5 inch ones. I am considering a google pixel 3a or 3a xl, oneplus 6t, samsung a51, samsung a71, or waiting for a google pixel 4 xl to go on a good sale.

As usual, each phone has some drawback that others don't, though, such as no headphone jack or fragile screens or worse cameras, so it's tough to decide.

The only apples I find with big screens are really expensive.

If you intend to use Google Talkback, you should buy a Pixel. Take special care to stay the hell away from OnePlus as they feel the need to add unlabeled elements to their UI. If you just want to use screen magnification, then it's mostly up to you.

Thanks. I've always just read everything, but as much as I am hurting my neck/shoulder with bad posture, trying to read screens for so long, I have thought I should start looking into screen readers for at least a lot of things.

So do good screen readers basically ignore things within certain tags? Also when I tried some built in browser screen reader it was reading a lot of info I wasn't needing to know. Do any of them let you highlight text and it only read the highlighted text? That time I was trying to get a PM read out loud to me, but it was reading everything on the page.

If your magnification is at around 5 X or higher, you should seriously consider switching to a screen reader. On the mobile end, I recommend voiceover for iPhone or iPad, but TalkBack for Android is reasonably competent as well. Like I said, just stay the hell away from OnePlus. Actually, you should probably stick to pixel if you intend to use TalkBack. Even Samsung has some issues. A system level screen reader will do you much better than 1 built into a website. You can selectively read text and other elements

You could buy an iPhone that is a few years old. Apple is still selling the iPhone XR, and you might still be able to buy an iPhone X new from another retailer.

Any new smartphone honestly, you can't go wrong with either Android or IOS.

Get a Nokia or a Pixel if you're into Android, they are Android One so they are the first to receive updates, or some of the newer iPhone models.

I have the iPhone 7 Plus and Love it.I’m legally blind. I don’t think I could ever go back to having a smaller phone.

I would agree that if you are a print reader, go for an Android. I think you are a print reader, as you are looking for a certain screen size. When you do need to magnify on the screen, the worst part is that you lose field. With Android, you use 2 fingers to zoom and move around, whereas, I think even with the most recent Iphones, you still need to use 3 fingers. If you are already losing field, I would think you would want to minimize further loss of field by using less fingers to cover the screen you're trying to look at. I don't understand why Apple doesn't do that unless it's some kind of proprietary issue. I talked to someone at Apple who tried to convert me (also VI), by showing me that you could make "text messages" larger, but pictures sent by text are the same size, so what's the point?
