Advice about living with I related headaches(self.Blind)
submitted by ghetopenguin
Hello I've been legally blind for a number of years but for the past few I've been getting persistent headaches. Just having my eyes open causes pain. I've tried lots of different tinted glasses – if I get the tint so dark that I can't use my functional vision very much it helps a bit – but apart from that I haven't found any relief at all.
Has anyone else gone through this? Should I go with the darker glasses and just screw my functional vision? It doesn't really seem like a good solution. I'm a bit stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Have a lovely evening Thank you for reading

I am in the same boat. I have headaches about every day. What's odd, though, is they started happening more often and being worse when I kept trying new tvs.... It was weird.... If I watched a new tv, it felt like squeezing on my head. If I stopped watching it, it would still do it and not heal. But if I turned my old tv back on, it would HEAL it almost immediately.
Then at some point, going back to the old tv wouldn't do anything anymore... And now I have headaches every day, but of course my vision is leading to most of it because of looking closely at monitors.
So I wish I had a solution too. I take so much aleve and tylenol then I have to worry about my liver and kidneys...

Hi. It sounds like using your functional vision is more trouble than it is worth. I personally think that it would be wise to learn means of completing tasks that does not require vision. Be sure to consult your ophthalmologist to determine the current state of your vision loss in case anything can be done or if you need to provide updated medical information to the governmental or other organization that you seek rehabilitation training from. Of course the current chaos in the world might impact the time line of this, but it is important to start any necessary processes.
For now, I would start by trying to teach yourself some adaptive technology skills like how to use a smartphone or tablet with a screen reader.
I hope that this helps.

I have the same splitting headaches even in bed at night, I lost my vision due to a brain tumor and recently went through the entire routine of exams, MRI, Nero Surgeon review, Glaucoma exams... end result was no real answer other than my optic nerve is failing and the total experience is driving the headaches... Tylenol now but no doubt this will drive a stronger Rx.

CBD oil helps a lot with my migraines. if its legal in your area you might want to give it a try. i find it works best if you use a little bit of THC and ibuprofen.

I have advanced RP, and deal with headaches frequently due to a lot of time looking at monitors. I have had some relief with amber tint lenses. it seems to help with glare and contrast issues.

I don't know if it's related, but I used to quite frequently get absolutely shocking headaches associated with weird flashing lights that I couldn't not see, if you know what I mean. I ended up with the most horrible prescription only painkillers and they didn't help much as it wasn't so much headache as a sort of inner head feeling.
In the end it went away a bit. It still happens very infrequently but I don't know how long you've been in the situation you're in.

I get the lights to. Flickering away even when my eyes are closed. Are used to get really stabby painful headaches but now it's gone down to more of a dull ache for most of the day
I tried a lot of migraine medicine thinking it was that. Never really got anywhere though.
Glad to know that someone has something similar and I'm not completely mental😂☺️
