To be honest, just pay the amount required to get it checked/treated, and try to get more healthy habits(?) About your eyes, like removing your contacts before you sleep, or making sure you're getting the right ones, etc.

I have bad teeth, because I didn't care for them growing up, and avoided going to the dentist. Now they're kinda fucked, and there's nothing much I can do about it now, except brushing and flossing n shit. Unfortunately you and I can't turn back in time.

Either you take care of it now, or you possibly go blind for life. Your choice.

If, like me, you are very short sighted, but correctable by glasses, you may be at higher risk of retinal detachment. However I'm nearer to retirement age and it has happened yet.

There are other eye problems (e.g. glaucoma) and $1 an eye exam can detect and you can treat before they get worse. So regular eye checks are a good thing.
