ok well this is a complicated question but why don't I give it a shot.

short answer: no.

When I was younger I learned the colours of fruits (purple for grapes, juicy red for peaches, the difference between a tree in autumn and a tree in summer) and nature was my first guide to colours. However this is also how people would reduce colours when I asked what colours were like and I would say something snarky back like "Yes we must have watched the same Sesame Street"

As I got older and more interested in television and literature I learned the cultural connotations of colours. white = purity, black = darkness/evil, green = springtime freshness new life, red = passion, desire, but also blood is red and flames can be red pink = girls blue = boys pink and blue are purple don't make purple (sorry that last statement was from fraternization code about public displays of affection at christian summer camp)

the seven colours of the rainbow are in order (but what the order means I don't know): red orange yellow green blue indigo violet.

Red, orange and yellow are what are called "warm colors" because they're visible from a long way away. That's why fire trucks are red (though Siri will disagree), and people wear yellow high-visibility vests. Green, blue and purple are called "cool colors" because they lack that vibrant intensity and are more subdued because they're less punchy and bright. The colrs are in this order because of their frequency.

If this makes you wonder about dark red (like burgundy), or light blue (sometimes called baby blue), then think of those like the colors being mixed with black or white.

Yes, tones are great associations too. When I think of warmth like literal temperature warms I do think of yellow and orange because the sun is often depicted in those colors. Similarly, stuff like rain and snow is often depicted in blue so it’s a cool temperature.

very insightful! thanks so much. Difference in cultural connotations are so true and interesting. Although I’d say that I rarely see it being enforced - that is to say even though some colors are negatively associated in some culture doesn’t mean people don’t wear that or use that in stuff still. By the way, I am sighted but I can’t even recall the order of the rainbow nor do I know the meaning of the order oops.. lol
