DAE work in Accounting or IT? (self.Blind)
submitted by danie02
Hello all. I (38 F) am a teacher considering a career change. I'm still trying to decide between cyber security and accounting. My issue is that I know both these fields use very specific programs. Sometimes they play well with screen readers and sometimes they don't. I would rather not pursue something that isn't going to work with Zoomtext, for example. Alternatively, if anyone has other suggestions, I'm listening.

For context, I have ROP, with myopic macular degeneration and glaucoma (both severe). I am not legally blind yet, but I'm not that far off (20/400 40* field and 20/60 10* field). Since these conditions are progressive, I would like to transition into something I could do competently when I can't see anymore. I have always been able to see well enough to "pass", so vision loss throughout my career was never a concern. I was supposed to start white cane and screen reader training with a local service provider, but COVID put that on pause.

I think if you do a search, I have seen a few amazing threads about how people do IT programming as a blind person, as I was wondering the same thing. It seems very feasible from the comments I read.
