Beginner Advice On Electronics As A Blind? (self.Blind)
submitted by saamaan2020
Hi,

it's great that I've managed to stumble on this little corner of the community. Short and sweet, I'd like to have some tips on starting out on electronics. Not circuit design in particular, but generally messing with different components and build up gradually from there. I looked into some books, but they start out with a pair of batteries, a couple wires, some diodes etc, and a multi meter/Ohmmeter of some sort. Since I'm doing it on my own, I can't get sight assistance all the time, thought to ask here out if there's someone working/has been working in this field, either as proffession or hobby. How did you start without these fancy meters? I suppose they may be vital later on when I move on to complex circuits. Some googling on digital audio multi meters showed up one fit result, which the device wasn't recommended to the visually impaired. I'm not sure buying an Arduino board is a good idea at this stage, since I know next to nothing about these stuff and they cost an arm and a leg here :)

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some guidance.

There is a blind electronics meetup hosted out of the lighthouse in San Francisco and I believe a similar meetup though less formal in New York. Josh Miele (a swell guy) runs the bay area meetup and you can most easily get ahold of him through Twitter, BerkeleyBlink and the New York meetup host is Chancey Fleet. Her Twitter handle is ChanceyFleet.

There is a long tradition of blind HAM radio, audiophile and electronics enthusiasts.
