We've created Jumpy Cat - a free, inclusive Fitness Coach app that designs personalised workouts. We want to make it inclusive for blind people too, with our detailed audio guidance. Please help! (self.Blind)
submitted by bluediavolo
UPDATE: Thank you all so much for your interest and feedback! We're working hard to release the additional audio instructions asap. The app is free to use - only thing we ask is to please consider supporting us by leaving a review on the App Store - it would mean so much to us.

Hi everyone,

We're a couple of indie creators from London, and we have built a simple fitness app that uses AI technology to design personalised video and audio workouts on demand. Jumpy Cat was built out of our frustration with wasting time to search for workouts on Youtube and in fitness apps. We also wanted to make it minimalist so it can be used as audio workouts only.

Here's a link if you want to skip reading the rest of the story, and just try out the app (available for iOS): $1

We've got lots of great feedback from blind people about the app, and we're working to make the audio guidance even better. We realised that blind and hard of sight people are generally a neglected group when it comes to fitness, and we're striving to make the app as inclusive as possible (also for seniors, people with injuries etc). We're doing this by focusing on creating the best audio guidance possible: currently it includes drill cues, tips on good exercise form, and exercise variations. And we'll be adding even more instructions soon.

How it works: You pick your options such as duration, level, body area, and training style, and the algorithm designs the workout for you in a few seconds. The whole workout, including the audio, is unique every time. In total, our algorithm can create more than 15,000 different workouts.

All of this is completely free, and we've made more than 75% of the content free, for everyone. We only ask one small favour: please leave a review of your experience on the App Store to support the app so more people can find and use it. Currently, it costs 3-4 dollars per ad click on the App Store for this kind of apps, and we really can't afford to spend this amount on marketing for a free app, sadly.

There are just a few advanced paid options that you can get for 1.99/month if you'd like to support us, but even without those you've got literally thousands of unique workouts on-demand. If more people support us with purchases, we plan to give back by gifting the subscription to those who can't afford it.

If you're interested in trying it out, you can download JumpyCat for iOS here: $1

If you know individuals or communities who can benefit - please message me, or simply share with them!

P.S. The app is named after our very playful kitty :)

This sounds too good to be true. Any timeline on an Android version?
MostlyBlindGamer 2 points 3y ago
Yes, please!

Thanks for your interest! We're trying to ship it for android too, but have had some technical issues with it. I'll update here when it's available!

Great, I'm looking forward to it.

"From beginner to beast." I love it!! I am very interested in acquiring this app! And it's free, yipee!! I'm going for it! Thank you!!

Thanks for checkin it out! Please share with your friends and family and consider leaving us a review on the App Store - it helps so much to spread the word for other people to find it, and keep the app free!

Sounds awesome! Gonna check it out once I get my new IOS in a couple of days :)

How does the algorithm work? Where do you get your audio content from?
bluediavolo [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Great, please try it out and if you've got a minute, consider leaving a review on the App store - it helps other people find the app, and we really need help in spreading the word. Advertising is obscenely expensive, sadly.

Regarding your question about the algorithm, it's a bit complicated to explain, but you can think of it as a giant knowledge base of exercise science and best practices, from which the algorithm feeds to produce a structured workout, just like a good fitness trainer would. For example, it won't be just random exercises but 4 groups of 6 exercises in an ABCABC pattern, with 30 seconds on, and 10 seconds rest for the particular level, duration, training style, body area, and variety (number of reps per exercise).

The idea is that anyone can get a custom workout in seconds, so there's minimum effort involved in getting the right workout, which hopefully keeps people more motivated.

Sounds amazing! I will definitely give it a go

That's great! If you'd like to support us, please consider leaving a review to help the App Store search along :)

I tried it this morning, briefly. I am happy to see you making this more accessible, and I've purchased the subscription in support. That said, when you said there was audio instruction, I guess I was thinking of actual instruction. Instead, the app just tells you what to do, which only works if you know the exercises. For instance, what's a lunge twist, or a chin tuck circle?

I haven't explored the app extensively yet, and I'd love to have it work for me. It would be great to have more varied exercises for my daily workouts. For now, I'm concerned I won't know enough of the names to do it right.
bluediavolo [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Sorry, just one question - would it make sense to have these exercise instructions before each exercise only the first time you encounter the exercise, or every time?

For example, for an ABCABC pattern, is it better to hear the instructions for exercise A only once or two times?
mehgcap 1 points 3y ago
Some kind of tutorial option on the workout screen would make sense to me. To avoid messing up the timing of the workout, this could be a tutorial that lists all the exercises included in the workout, with an option to review the instructions for each as the user desires. Once done, the user would close this screen and play the workout video. If necessary, the user could go back and review again, during the workout. A button for instructions on the video playback screen would be good as well. My main point is to let the user choose, and not to auto-insert instructions at all.

I see what you mean! Thanks! We'll think about how best to do this (the actual media player is custom, and technically quite complex).
bluediavolo [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Hi, thank you for your feedback and support!
This is just the first version, we're currently working on adding very detailed instruction *per exercise* that explain how to do the exercises. It will be in the next update, in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for your patience!

Please, if you have a minute, leave us a review on the App Store, it really helps other people who may benefit from it to discover the app. Thank you so much in advance!

I tried the app and have decided it’s not for me.

Having said that; the app is very accessible.

The only thing is there’s no description of the exercises.

You could try posting on audiogames.net as well as applevis.com
bluediavolo [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Thanks for trying it, and thanks for the tips!

Do you mind telling me why you didn't find the app useful personally? I'd love to know if there's something we can do to make the app useful for the larger community.

We're working on adding more detailed instructions about how to do each exercise, for a near future release.

I prefer gyms.

Plus... I’m lazy :)
bluediavolo [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Haha gotcha. Well, if you happen to know someone who might like this, please pass it along - it would mean a lot.
bradley22 1 points 3y ago
Ok :)

Is there any particular reason why ios 13 is required to use the app?
bluediavolo [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Hi there,

Parts of the user interface depend on iOS 13. Which version are you on?
ErtaySh 1 points 3y ago
Gotcha. I am on 12.4.

I’m not blind but do suffer from a spinal cord injury. T5 complete. I hope to make friends ♿️
