connection between good posture, strong back muscles and better vision?

i remember some advice given to me by a pt that if i correct my back muscles and posture it will help my vision. anyone have the science that would back that up?

I think that your PT was full of crap. I don’t think for a minute standing up straight is a treatment for diseases of the eye. The opposite though, I think is correct. If you have a very narrow field of view it leads to Poor posture, particularly if you’re not using a cane or dog. I’ve been using a cane for a year, and my opinion is my posture has improved.

I hate this type of medical advice, as I believe it is blaming the patient for having a medical condition. If the PT was worth his salt he would have told you to get O&M training and a cane.

i think he had good intentions but i wanted to check before i go spouting that around.

Well...I know posture affects circulation to your head due to strain and sometimes hypertrophy of the muscles in your neck. Correcting my posture and gait majorly helped my migraine issues and seems to have improved my contrast sensitivity a bit. Though I don't have diabetic retinopathy, I know it's directly related to blood flow problems. Depending on what condition is affecting your vision, I suppose it's conceivable that correcting your posture could help in a roundabout way. I don't \*officially\* have a clue what I'm talking about, but isn't that the very basis of Reddit?

isnt that the basis of the life?

I don't believe posture will actually help with vision, but I do find that my proprioception is better when my posture is more aligned, helping with my orientation.

That is to say that when I'm not slouching or leaning, my sense of self in a space is better, giving way to a straighter path of travel, and more consistent gait. I also have less clumsy moments, avoiding obstacles easier, and not making a mess of my tabletop or desk.

This sounds like when I used to teach programming I told the students that if they didn't document their code as they went along then their programs wouldn't work.

Of course documentation has no functional impact on code but writing documentation comments forced the students to think about what they were trying to do and help me understand if the the had the right intention for the code of not the correct action from it.

Similarly good posture might mean you aren't looking at the ground and your eyes are at least pointing in the direction, and secondly it may be less tiring overall and tiredness never helped anything.

Finally it have just been some bribery to get you to sit up straight and eat your vegetables.

im starting to think its more of the bribery
