Audio Books for Elderly and Non-Braille users during SIP? (self.Blind)
submitted by StephanieKaye4
A friend's mother is in her 90s, in a nursing home in LA. She's blind from old age, doesn't know Braille. The Braille Institute used to give her audio books to listen to for free. However, because of the Stay In Place, they are closed and that service is no longer provided.
Is there another way she can receive audio books?
The library system in LA is closed too. Thanks.

Does Audible provide a free service to the elderly and blind? It is not a cheap monthly fee.
I did reach out to Bookshare and received information from their membership department.

I chatted with Audible and they are providing a 3-month long Discounted Gold Program for $7.49/month for her.

If someone has a library card, they can borrow audiobooks from the library

The Braille Institute in Los Angeles is no longer providing this service and the libraries are all closed. Is this service still available to the blind during the SIP?

Most public libraries have options for online borrowing of audio books for use on a mobile device. I use an app called Libby connected to my local library. I never go to the library and listen to audiobooks daily
