This genuinely might not be the correct place to post this but I figured it was my best shot.
I currently run an Etsy account for custom cookies and desserts, most of my custom cookies having extensive writing on them. Alongside these cookies, I sell individual sets that say things like 'happy birthday', 'congratulations', etc and then do a cookie that correlates to the them with it. For example 'Happy birthday' gets paired with a cake shaped cookie, 'congratulations' may be paired with a diploma cookie, marriage cookie, baby cookie, etc.
That being said, I began to realize that people who are blind (or have lost an extensive amount of their vision) can not be gifted these items and should at least have a chance to be gifted them. I started to look online for a converter that took whatever I typed in and converted it to braille but found that multiple websites gave different versions of the same sentence. I wanted to use braille on the cookies in order to become more inclusive on my Etsy. While I understand I could make the conversion by myself, I was concerned I would mess up the spacing between the braille.
If anyone happens to know an accurate 'conversion' website I would really love to know it!
Thank you in advance!

I can help with this! Brailletranslator.org has an option to download an image of your translation. So, if you typed “happy birthday”, then selected UEB - uncontracted (or grade 1), it will translate it letter for letter. Download it as an image (it’s a .png). Use Inkscape or illustrator to trace the .png. In my experience the size, spacing, and translation is correct. Keep in mind, these are tiny dots, and will probably need to be piped with a tiny tip, but that should get you going on making accurate templates you can print out and place above where you’re piping the dots.

Thank you so much! I have a lot of experience with piping fine details on cookies and I own a pico projector which I use for some projects. While I'm not sure what the outcome of this will be, I definitely hope I can make this work :)

Absolutely. I’m excited to see what you come up with! Good luck!

Cool idea, and the inclusiveness is appreciated! It might work better to put the braille on the wrapper or on an included card though for longer sentences, as braille can get long quickly and you'll already have to split up sentences vertically. Large raised print may also be an alternative for many people, since a surprising amount of legally blind people can't read braille. Of course braille would fit on larger treats just fine though, and it would be cool as hell to have a cake with readable braille on it at a birthday party IMO. Touching the food does have it's own issues though, which is where a separate edible placard [thin hard chocolate?] or plastic stick up sign may come in handy as a removable surface for the braille.

Thank you for the input and great information! I guess I never really considered legally blind people not understanding or being able to read Braille. I’ll defiantly all this information into my “development process” :)

I don’t know how I feel about this, on one hand I think as soon as you touch a cookie the dots might move but on the other hand it does sound like a neat idea.
I hope it works out for you.

Hey! I would be decorating the cookies in royal icing - once royal icing dries it does not move what’s so ever :) but thank you for the input!

Ah ok :) no problem.

I wouldn't personally run my fingers over the cookies to read them, but knowing someone got me foodstuffs with Braille on it would come across as extremely thoughtful. You should link your site in your post. I'd love to check out what you have.

That's definitely good insight - I guess it definitely is more of the thought then the actual wording on it :)
I don't know if links are allowed on this subreddit, it states no personal advertisements but it does not clarify what that involves. I'll message you a link privately :)

I like this idea.
But let's talk about your cookies. I'm interested. Where do I find them?

Thank you - I run RoseyTreatsBakery on Etsy :) I can send you a link if you want

For clarity, I trace the pngs to make them a vector. This is helpful for clear, non-pixelated images that makes cutting on a vinyl cutter or using a laser possible. (When you get there.)
