Activities for a blind Grandpa who is shielding (self.Blind)
submitted by cleochops
Hello everyone,

My Grandpa has been blind for several years now and was managing it well (going to groups, meeting with other blind people and making use of the events that blind charities sometimes throw) however lockdown has put a halt to all that.
He lives alone and has been shielding and it’s very lonely and boring for him. I wanted to get him some things to help brighten his mood and keep him occupied, so I was wondering what sort of toys/ activities could I get that would appeal to a blind elderly man? I’ve found a modified rubix cube so far, any suggestions would be very gratefully received ☺️

What did he like to do before? It would be easier to learn how to adapt something he knew previously than learning something new he may not be interested in.

He had a group that he attended every day called the blind club where he was able to socialise and played games (helped by the volunteers that also attended)

My husband loves to play the voice-activated monopoly. (So much so he has all the spaces memorized) and it has done pretty well with the extended family as well as they all received boards for Christmas. So they play with him over skype/facebook video. Target has it for a pretty good price right now! $1
