So, I am not sure how severe mine was, but a similar thing happened to me. Around 6 I needed to wear a patch in order to strengthen my eye. I would like to think that it did work, but I'm also unsure on the amount of gap there was in my vision. Currently, my vision is not the best, and my right eye is a bit weaker but not severely.

On the other hand, my cousin had the same issue and his doctor didn't tell him to wear a patch. That it would figure itself out since he was still young. He lost almost all of the vision in his eye, and now can only really see shadows and such.

While I cannot tell a definite yes or no on if this will work, I hope that this information will help you.

I think you mean 20/400.

20/2400 would be... so little vision it's not worth measuring. I'm not even sure that's a thing.

Whether or not patching will help depends on the reason for his vision loss. It can help for a few conditions. For a plethora of others, it's useless.

What is his actual diagnosis?

I've always had this, I'm like 35/200 something. When I was young I always had contacts or glasses or both at the same time. My ophthalmologists never tried to put an eye patch on me to strengthen my other eye, but I think whatever damage was done to my left eye (born with pretty bad glaucoma and cataracts right after) I don't think could be fixed. So I always thought that whatever your numbers are, they'll stay the same pretty much. But if his doctors think he can strengthen his vision, there's no harm in wearing a patch a few hours a day! Although it's difficult to get a child to do so. It's not something I've heard of, but if his doctor recommends it. I wish your son the best of luck!

I'm not trying to be nitpicky, this is kind of important (especially for you) to know.

Is his vision 20/400 or 20/2400?

20/400 is bad, but 20/2400 is much, much worse. I don't even know how to wrap my head around 20/2400.

I was 20/800 in one eye the last time I saw an eye doctor and was able to make out the eye chart before going blind in that eye.
