Bug with voiceover (self.Blind)
submitted by autistictechgirl1990
Hi I have an iPhone 7 with the latest iOS, not the beta of the version 14. I have some sight but I am in the habit of almost always having the screen curtain on because I can’t see it anyway and sometimes the light is too bright. But I’ve noticed randomly the screen curtain flicks on and off voice-over says screen curtain on screen curtain off and I can actually see the light going on and off on and off and it’s really annoying sometimes. Does anybody else have this problem? At first I was a bit paranoid thinking that somebody was hacking and wanting to see on again what I was doing and why it flicked on for a few seconds. But it’s getting really bad where it’s going on and off on and off quite a lot and then sometimes it isn’t speaking for a few seconds

Sometimes, voiceover crashes, and when it recovers, it does this. This seems to happen more often on older devices. Nobody is hacking your device, it’s just a bug in the way the software is written.

If it persists as an issue, maybe you can just reduce your screen brightness to 0, and just leave the screen curtain off.

Does it occur in all apps? Even on the home screen?
Does turning the device off and back on make any difference?

If nothing seems to help, you might be due to a factory reset. You could re-install from an iCloud backup, but if that doesn’t help, another factory reset and fresh install of all apps might be necessary.

The Alexa app crashes my Voiceover as well. It's pretty annoying. I'm on the new SE

If it's happening too often you may wish to try reinstalling the software using iTunes / Finder as it may be a sign of data corruption.
