Hi I am looking for fellow blind people who are in the medical field or studying to befriend and possibly find a mentor or some connections!

Hi there I'm in med school now! I'm not fully blind yet but have rapidly progressing glaucoma and vision loss. Do PM me, would love to get to know a fellow med person with vision loss

My SIL was going that route. She ultimately decided on clinical psych PhD. Where are you in your academic career?

Oh nice!!!! When did she graduate? I’m in my 3rd undergrad!

A year ago she finished her pre-med/science requirements (having had a previous bachelor’s in an unrelated field). She’s starting with a master’s first this fall in order to hopefully strike up an academic relationship with the professor in that school who she wants as her advisor for her doctorate.

It’s great that you’re reaching out to people, by the way. It’s an excellent way to make connections!

There are a small number of fully blind doctors in practice, but my understanding is most were trained while they still had vision (although not exclusively so). Med schools maintain technical standards requirements you can access via request, but the functional requirements are usually pretty vague. My understanding is this gives sizable discretion to administrators to deny matriculation based on a very subjective interpretation of these standards
