Looking for advice about equipment to assist sight loss (self.Blind)
submitted by babyfriend11
Hi all! I am currently partially sighted but going blind in my right eye. Unfortunately for me I had cataracts at the age of 21 which should be completely reversible but due to the time I had to wait for my first surgery I had complications and now have some permanent sight loss in my left eye which is made worse by hundreds of floaters constantly in my vision. the hospital have told me I will have to wait until I completely lose my sight in my right eye before they will remove that cataract and I'm now getting to the stage where my depth perception is very poor, as is my peripheral vision.
I'm most likely going to be in this situation for at least another year and I'm feeling less and less confident in my mobility at the moment. when I lost my left sight, i was constantly falling over or walking into things in public and I'm having a lot of anxiety about this happening again now I'm losing my sight in my right eye.
Sorry for the waffly context but all in all I'm looking for some advice as to any equipment I could get to make my life a bit easier. a friend (who has a partially sighted family member) recommended I get a cane so I can feel what's to my right and not walk into things but I wondered if anyone else had any other suggestions?
Thank you in advance!
