Cane Repair (self.Blind)
submitted by Broken_Peepers
Are there any companies that I can send my cane to get fixed? Part of the elastic in the shaft broke. It's my favorite cane, and I would hate to have to just buy a new one.

What brand is the cane? I believe Ambutech does repair work, but they can also send you a new cord for you to repair yourself. Some of the stores that sell the canes can also do the repair work as well.

I don't know where you could get this, but you could buy new elastic and restring it yourself.

I did think of that. My dad will know where to find some. My guess is a hardware store, Home Depot/Lowe's.

. .My cane pulled loose from the top of my cane at the handle, didn't just break in the middle. Everything is connected, but don't know how to get the elastic back into the handle. My cane is OLD, like about 35 + years, and is my favorite. My Revolution cane broke(literally) in half,so trying to find an old one to cobble pieces from, as the sleeve broke on 1 section.Tried taping it,but it just won't hold.Braille Inst.is closed,so have no way to fix either cane, and HATE being stranded indoors, with no canes left that aren't broken. I'll pay to get them fixed, if there's anyone out there who fixes Revolution or Hycor white canes. Please?

If it's an ambutech cane, their site says:

"Elastic cord has a core of genuine rubber and as such it will deteriorate over time. If the cord has failed due to the length of time since manufacture or because of accident there are two options. The cane can be returned to us for repair / refurbishment, there is a fee for this service or you can order a repair kit to do it yourself. If you feel there is a defect from the manufacturing process please contact us."

It indeed is. Thank you for the tip. I was not aware they offered that.

(UK.) I have never found a company that offers this servie, but canes here are pretty cheap so I suspect that the thinking is that it would be cheaper to just replace it. Idk about other countries though.

I have a custom colored cane, which cost more. That's why I want to get it restrung rather than buying a new one.

You could buy a normal one and then just swap the shalf pieces to your custom coloured ones, I did this to alter the length of my daughters cane using shaft pieces from different cames

That's not a bad idea. I may end up doing that. Thank you for the suggestion.
