I can’t personally speak to this, but I don’t think it’s necessarily your place to circumvent their assistive services. Not every blind person can read raised text, particularly if it’s not printed by a computer, so without talking to your friend about it first it might cause more problems than it solves.
One cool thing is there’s an app you can use to share video of something, and volunteers will watch it and tell you in speech what it is/what it says. If your friend wants to keep things private from their caretaker, there is a way.
It’s super nice to catch up with friends from years ago and I encourage you to do it! Just saying that email/text or relying on the assistive services they already have might be better, if you aren’t going to get their opinion first.
