This paper from 2015 discusses the low rate of employment for blind and visually impaired people. Since unemployment is currently much higher then it was in 2015, we can safely assume that the current employment rate for the blind community is even worse.(nfb.org)

You're actually not referencing the paper reporting when the study was repeated, which found an even lower emfboyment rate. https://www.nfb.org/images/nfb/publications/jbir/jbir18/jbir080101.html
But one thing to keep in mind is that the sectors blind people work in don't seem to mirror the sectors sighted people work in. I think that the rate of blind people who work in the food service and entertainment industries—the sectors that have been most affected by COVID-19—is much lower than the rate of work in some other industries, and I would imagine that very few blind people work in the transportation industry.

I didn't see the second study. I will definitely check that out. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I agree that the distribution of employment in regards to sectors is different for the blind. That's definitely an important point to consider. However, overall employment for the visually impaired is lower then for the sighted population. On a personal note, I retired when I lost my vision but I've had friends who are visually impaired who have comented on their difficulties finding a job. While it is anecdotal, it still points toward weakness in the job market for the blind. In fact, it was these discussions that prompted my interest in the subject.

I am a musician and a third to half my work was in musical theatre. It's gone and it's not coming back for a long time. Obviously during the peak of the lockdown there were almost no other jobs happening either, though I have done some work from home stuff that's actually been okay, though there could have been a bit more of it. I've been able to boost up the amount of non theatre stuff I've been doing a little but only through the agency we run, by not passing on work to people we represent. It is utterly miserable and I feel like I'm screwing people out of their homes and livelihoods.
In short I'm making mortgage payments but I know a lot of people who aren't, and none of them are blind.

I'm looking for a job now. I'm currently employed part time, but I need health insurance. I was set for a promotion after spring break, but "after" never came.
I've had several interviews over the past year, but no offers.
