My vision is returning. How is this possible?(self.Blind)
submitted by Envrin
First, quick back story as to how I went blind. One day back in July 2016, I feel in my backyard on the tiles, and cracked the right corner of my head hard. So hard, I could only sleep an hour or two for a couple weeks as it hurt too much to lie down. That fall caused lesions in my right optic nerve, and from there the blood slowly leaked from behind my eyes up through the lesions until I was fully blind on Sept 15, 2016. Both optic nerves are dead, as there is no blood there to keep them alive.
For some inexplicable reason, as this should be medically impossible, I'm regaining my vision. This has been progressing over the pas week. Previously, the best vision I had was if it's a black door in a white wall, I'll be able to make it out. However, white door on white wall, no chance I'll see it. I was basically totally blind in both eyes.
For some reason now though on sunny days, I can see the sky is blue and the white clouds, whereas before I couldn't see the sky or clouds at all. We were driving today, as I was able to point out street signs and their color, I was able to see those little cement stoppers in a parking were yellow and I could see them clearly.
I was going to go for a pee in the trees, and I could see which sections were sparsely or densely populated with trees, plus I could see the green leaves. I can even kinda see myself in the mirror now, while previously it was just all black. I can make out a wolf in a painting, when previously I didn't even know there was a painting in that location on the wall.
Has anyone else experienced the same? Why is it happening? I thought nerve cells don't regenerate.

Very cool, but I would assume that seeing a doctor may be a productive move to understand why/how this is happening; and also to understand how you could maintain this momentum. Wishing you all the best!
My friend went blind at the age of 2. She woke up with a tiny amount of vision one day about 2 years ago.
She passed her drivers test a couple of weeks ago. I do not know how and I don't believe in miracles but this reads like one.

Yeah definitely don't post to reddit, go see your doctor :) In any case, congratulations on the amazing news! I'm sincerely happy for you.

Looking at the trees while you pee is the best.

After cutting my thumb, I got feeling back only after several years. It seems nerves *can* regenerate, or re-connect, but very slowly.

Like others have already mentioned, you should go see a doctor to see if you can do anything to maintain the momentum. Maybe get a few lottery tickets too

I know I'm a little late to the party but!!!!!!
I have a couple questions! Were you entirely blind out of either eye before you regained some sight? I'm completely blind in my right eye from a traumatic head injury as a child, and your reddit post is the first ive heard about anything like this happening.
I am so, so happy for you and i hope you continue to regain your sight. Congratulations.

No, unfortunately back to being blind. Yes, I was completely blind in both eyes, and like you, caused by head trauma. I feel in my backyard about 4 years ago one afternoon, and dmanaged my right optic nerve.
Not sure what happened there. Vision was coming back very slightly a bit, then I ended up in the emergency room one day. Upon leaving the ER that afternoon, my vision was almost fully back in both eyes.
I'm guessing I was given some type of steroids when I was in the ER. The doctor seen something on my CT scan, so scheduled me for an MRI on the 19th of this month, so I'll ask him about the steroids then and hopefully get myself a 6 week trial perscription if my guess is right.

Damn!! I'm sorry to pry and I know that it gets to be an old hat and isn't very interesting to talk about but... you damaged your right optic nerve but went blind in both eyes?? I also have right optic nerve damage from my head injury as a child. However, like I said im only blind in one eye.
And i was just on steroids in July and no returning sight for me:/ Your blindness being back i imagine is a bit disappointing. I hope the doctors can figure it out. I hope the steroids work for you! Keep me posted?
