I made a screen-reader-friendly music practice app for Android (self.Blind)
submitted by practica-dev
Hi, I hope this is ok to post here! I've released an Android app to help people practice music, train their ear, try out some improvisation ideas over a backing melody etc. You can set the scale you want to use, how long the phrase should be, and then generate melodies and use the repeat controls to loop them, or take turns with the app (call-and-response style). The Guide tells you what's playing when you turn it on, and when a screen reader is active it will read the notes out as they play.

The app's called Practica: $1 / $1

I hope it's helpful to people, and I really wanted to make it accessible - but I'm new to a lot of the technology involved and learning as I go, so if anyone has any feedback or criticism they're willing to give I'd really appreciate it. Especially around navigation - TalkBack's linear navigation (swiping left and right) has trouble with controls where things like Switch Access don't, so it would be really helpful to hear about anyone's experiences with it. Thanks!

I have an Android device, as well as some friends who have some. We'll try it out for sure. Thank you!

Hey thanks! There isn't a tablet mode yet, so it's just "big phone" but the landscape layout should work pretty well

Thanks! I appreciate it, I was a little worried about just showing up and posting a "my app" thread
