Looking for tips on socializing and meeting new people (self.Blind)
submitted by kramwam
I'm visually impaired and I'm sure this community understands the struggle of having a social life.

During the last couple of years I have become very anti-social, a typical lone wolf that does almost everything alone.

Now I moved to a new city and would like to know your tips for meeting new people. How would you do it?

As I see only during the day I rarely leave the house after it gets dark and I also hate most indoor places (cafes, malls, restaurants, etc) as the lights are usually not sufficient for my vision.

Check out the national Federation of the blind. They may have a chapter in your area and you can meet up with other blind people

Bumble is an app like tinder where you can choose to see people seeking friendship or romantic relationships, don’t know how accessible it is though.

I agree with MeetUp, and I also made a few friends through an app called Patook, that is aimed at connecting people for friendship only, and you need to be in a city to find others on it.

i Was in a similar situation to you... I moved to the opposite side of the world, didnt know anyone

the key, whether you are blind or sighted, is stepping outside of your comfort zone... when you are the new person, you really have to put yourself out there.. if you are like me, you will feel pretty awkward, but honestly, repetition repetition... it will get easier

are you single? If so hit up tinder... become a tinder fiend, this will not necessarily get you friends, but it will be easier to meet new people, give you a bit of a confidence boost, and hey, maybe get laid

$1 is really good for a new city... if you have no group hobbies, then go do something you’ve never done... one thing for example I did, was I went to group Spanish meetups... don’t know a word of Spanish but I was able to meet people.
why can’t you go out at night? Can you not just take an uber door to door?

good luck

Can you take a chair and sit outside of your place a bit? As your neighbors walk by, they may start visiting with you on a regular basis.
