The 5 W’s (and 1 H) on OrCam Read (self.Blind)
submitted by AdaptiVision
OrCam recently released a new personal reading device. About the size of a pen, it reads aloud any printed or digital text. If you're curious about the device -- what people are saying, what's the cost, and whether it's right for you -- check out our blog post: $1

Has OrCam gotten over their little man syndrome yet?

From this product promo, I'd say no lol.

Ha, no.
1700 dollars? My God how are companies still doing this in 2020?
A 500 dollar iPhone with seeing ai over this thing any time.
Sure it'd be nice to have a dedicated reading pen but not almost 2 grand nice.
Also how many blind people could afford this thing without going into crippling debt? Says right on the blog post there you should ask your church or school.
Way to perpetuate the cycle of helplessness and reliance on charity for overpriced gadgets that won't even be supported in 2 years.
Thanks but no thanks Orcam.

Hi there and thanks for your feedback! We are actually an independent distributor that researches the best and latest available technologies for blindness and low vision. We recognize there are differences in the technology reflected in the price points. Some people do better with a dedicated product, though it is often just a matter of personal preference.

Thanks for your thoughtful response.
I don't agree with the business model but I respect your trying to do something in a landscape where there are very few options.
Best of luck.
