So I'm already disabled for other reasons. But I lost sight in my right eye totally in 2018 and since 2019 my left eye has been going. So it's getting worse. It's effect my daily quality of life.
So i guess when are you officially blind? I was low vision. I feel blind. I can't see a lot of time now. I have to have help. I'm having to make my home more accessible then it already was. I'd like to get a cane but i don't want to feel like a fake. I guess i want a real diagnosis. I guess i even want my disability status updated. I want to feel like i did it all by the book is that weird?

Diminished field of view, or lack of acuity, or a combination of both are used to determine legal blindness. If you can see the 20/200 letters on a Snellen chart but not the 20/100 it means you are. Or if your field of vision is less than 20%. There’s an equation for a combination. Since your field of vision is not the full 180° I’d say maybe 20/100 means you are, but I don’t know. You may need to get the field of view test done.

There is no blind police... you can identify however you like... totally blind people have zero vision. ‘I have some vision, and probably due to laziness, I just go with the 1 syllable “blind” and if another blind person was to criticize me because I can see a little bit, wouldnt bother me

You are not lazy, if you have some vision and you are classified as blind. Only those that have zero vision are totally blind. There is a difference

The answer to this question and what happens after the diagnosis varies from country to country. I'm not an american, so take following advice with a grain of salt.
What comes to canes are not only used for navigating but also for signaling other people that you have a low vision, so there's nothing "fake" about having a cane but having some usable vision left. You might not need a normal long cane, but could still find shorter symbol canes or guide canes handy.
So I guess meeting an ophthalmologist to get an update about your left eye might be a good idea. You also might want consider talking with an O&M specialist about canes and if you should get one.
