Best accessible guided meditation app? (self.Blind)
submitted by Rhjmdl
Hi there!

My brother is totally blind and has been looking for an accessible guided meditation app for his iPhone. Any recommendations? Thank you!

hey u/Rhjmdl ! I'm part of Medito Foundation, a nonprofit building a free meditation app. Would love to have a chat with your and your brother. We are looking to build an accessible product so that anyone can benefit from it.
If you are interested, feel free to ping me $1

Her headspace is supposed to be decent as well. Also diet is really great, so both of those could be options for him.

Calm or Apple Music would be your best bet in terms of accessibility. I recommend Calm for most of my visually impaired/blind patients (I’m a student behavior analyst and special education teacher/consultant) and I use it myself. It’s given me the least amount of issues and I’ve yet to get any complaints about it from my patients.

Behavior analyst? Um... The stuff the FBI does, or the controversial stuff?
psychgamer2014 1 points 2y ago
The controversial stuff; however, I stay away from most of what would be considered controversial. I specialize in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), and using technology to help people communicate. Like I mentioned in a reply to someone else, my most recent case involved me programming an app so that my client can order food in his favorite restaurant as he has selective mutism.

Oh OK that seems pretty cool. I guess my question is how do you do that while blind/VI? I don't know what your visual acuity is. Wait, you actually developed software for your client?
psychgamer2014 1 points 2y ago
My visual acuity is 20/200 in both eyes with a 10˚ visual field. At the BCBA level, I have techs assisting me with observations and we’ve created a detailed note-taking system that allows me to have a good idea of what’s happening in session so that I can adjust treatment appropriately; however, most of my clients are “high functioning,” so I do a lot of talk therapy with them myself.

And yes, I programmed a customized app for my client myself. Depending on the client’s needs, we’ll build a customized app for them from the ground up. I made one to help someone with gardening. One of my colleagues made an app to help her client order pizza. The possibilities are endless.

No problem!

Calm I'm pretty sure works with voiceover, or there are plenty of guided meditations on youtube if it doesn't, but I believe it does.
I think apple music and or spotify have some too.
