What kind of image descriptions are most beneficial? (self.Blind)
submitted by Annabel1231
Hello everyone! I run a fan subreddit for a blind youtuber named Molly Burke. Since the beginning of the sub I have required image descriptions for all screenshots or images to try to make the sub accessible for everyone.

I myself am sighted and have had trouble, and have noticed others having trouble with image descriptions. I'm hoping you can tell me what kind of descriptive words are most beneficial to you, if you have any links to resources that could help or examples of really good descriptions that would be super appreciated.

Thank you so much for any advice and I hope you all have a lovely day.

There’s an image description training tool called $1.

Just think of what u would want to know from a pic, but don’t make it long. Like if it’s a dog running, u can just say dog running in field. U don’t have to explain what the background is, or what the weather is, or really even what breed the dog is. I think molly has descriptions for her posts from insta, so that might be a good place to check out

Ok! I've noticed a lot of people trying to over describe every aspect of a photo. Molly does have image descriptions, I have used those as references before but it's hard to explain to others how to do it and sometimes I just struggle with what to say and don't want to just use one form of reference because I figured not every blind person had the same preferences. Thank you for the advice!

Yeah I’m sure if you’ve checked out others descriptions you’ll be fine. Don’t over think and keep it simple :)
