recent diagnosis (self.Blind)

hello all. i really appreciate finding this subreddit! last month, i woke up to partial vision loss in my left eye. i was diagnosed with myopic macular degeneration. i received the first round of anti-VEGF and am going for round two today. i have compiled a list of some questions based on my research. i’m wondering if anyone would have suggestions to questions i should be asking that i’m missing, as well as any suggestions of how i should be preparing myself for complete central vision loss within the next ten years or before (at least in this left eye, might have a little longer with the right). thank you so much. and thank you for all of the info shared in this subreddit. ☮️

First of all, sorry about your diagnosis. I have a condition that is similar to macular degeneration. I have 20/70 vision in my good eye and legally blind in my right eye, Some things I've done to help position myself for an easier future are..

1. Picking a career where I can work with little to no vision. Although, I understand this isn't always an option for people.
2. Moving to an area with decent public transport.
3. Maintaining friendships and being social. You will need to rely on other people more and more as vision gets worse and it's good to have friends that have no problem being there for you.

Hey. I have myopic MD, too. If you have had sudden vision loss & are receiving injections, it sounds like you have wet MD. I have dry MD (geographic atrophy).

1. Has your optho suggested the AREDS2 vitamins? I take them twice daily & try to eat 2-4 servings of greens on top of that for the lutein.

2. Ask your optho (when you feel ready) to refer you to a low vision clinic for a low vision eval. Mine was done at my local rehab hospital. After seeing the low vision optometrist, I was referred to the Division of Blind Services. They offer a ton of services & support. Their main job is to help you get or maintain employment, but the vendor I was placed with has a ton of classes on adapting to low vision or blindness and counseling. I would ask for referrals for a low vision eval ASAP. DBS & their local vendors will be your best source for daily living...b/c all the doctors will tell you is to increase light, contrast & magnification. But not necessarily how to do it. 🙄

what's your vision like? how long ago were you diagnosed with dry AMD? and how long did it take to progress? I have a recent diagnosis of dry AMD and I'm terrified.
