Android or iPhone yes I know it’s a repeat topic (self.Blind)

I have been using an iPhone since the 3S and am really hesitant to switch. The accessibility has been over all good and it’s easy to use.

On the other hand I’m getting fairly fed up with the iPhone and though some of it is the increasing amount of bugs with each new IOS that’s released that’s not all of it by far. My previous IPhone was an iPhone 7. The mute switch didn’t work on it. I think I checked it when it was fairly new and it did it but I’m not sure because I was waiting on a transplant at the time and wanted my phone to ring out loud and get my attention. By the time I got the transplant and wanted to mute my phone I was out of apple care.

My current phone is the iPhone XR For a while my ear speaker has had a bad buzz in it. Today I had something really weird happen. It was responding very slowly, voiceover wasn’t reading everything, and I couldn’t get it to read the power off screen. I finally decided to do a reset and hit the power button and the volume button together and held them like you’re supposed to. It didn’t reset it called 911. To make it worse because of the buzz in the ear speaker I had a hard time understanding the 911 operator when I was explaining it was an accident and giving my information. So you can see why I might be a little jaded by the hardware.

The other thing that bothers me is kind of a wash. If I got an android I could then read my text messages on a windows computer but I would no longer be able to read them on my iPad and my Apple Watch would become useless.

After having said all of that I am still hesitant to leave the iPhone because I remember hating the gestures on a kindle tablet I had in 2013 and yes I realize things have changed since then. Also from all I have read Android phones still have a lot of rough edges when it comes to accessibility. So for those of you who have used both extensively what are your thoughts?

I would say it comes down to what apps you want to use.

For me I struggle on android for a full text rss reader, few choices on good apps to read books and I love dystopia on the iPhone.

So research whether android has good quality accessible apps that work for you. Otherwise stick with iPhone

When people say that Talkback has gotten a lot better, they're not wrong, but so has Voiceover continuously. Honestly Talkback is pretty good at this point, it's just Android. Future tip if you want to reset on the XR: press the volume up buttons, then press and hold then power and volume down buttons.

Check out a lower cost Android device and see if it works for you. I know you can get a moto e for $150 to take for a spin

Bad idea. Talkback runs like garbage on anything cheaper than a mid-range phone like the Pixel 3a/4a.
