Screen reader friendly open source/free office packages for windows?(self.Blind)
submitted by guitarandbooks
Hi everybody. I used to own Microsoft Office. I owned a few versions over the years but my product keys were no longer valid. Also, this was back in the Windows XP days followed later by Windows seven. I am trying to find a screen reader friendly open source/free office package that works in Windows 10. When I'm using my Mac, opening various Microsoft Office file formats is not an issue but when I do jump back onto Windows from time to time, I'm having no luck finding a solution.
I tried to find the Office compatibility pack on the Microsoft site but it looks like that has been discontinued?
I tried Open Office and Libra Office a few years ago but neither played well with a screen reader.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I like Libreoffice. It works well with NVDA and used it before I got Office 365. Was using it up through the beginning of the year.

Open Office works well. That being said, I have Jaws 2020.

Have you tried Google Suite? Google Docs and Sheets have come a long way, and since they’re cloud-based, switching between devices or operating systems is smooth.
Edit: and they’re free with a gmail address.

The online versions of Microsoft Office are also free.
