Are there any therapy groups for the blind? (self.Blind)
submitted by TodesKoenig
Hello, firstly I apologize for not knowing the inns and outs of read it. I am not very well versed with how this application works as I have only used it a handful of times. My situation is that I am in my early 40s, mail and 100% blind. I feel I’m at a place where I need therapy for several issues occurring in my life but I am on very limited income, in Los Angeles and I think I just plain need help. If anybody can provide any resources that I can contact I would greatly appreciate it. I will try to contact the braille Institute when I first went blind about five years ago but nobody ever got back to me and I think the frustration and desperation I felt back then unfortunately let me to not look up any other resources until now.

That idea sounds incredibly interesting, I don’t know how to even begin that though and on what type of platform. But it does sound like something I would like to do

Sighted person here with a visually impaired family member.

Try contacting the Department of Rehabilitation for the State of California for resources - they may have connections to support groups or therapists who specialize.

Their website is http://dor.ca.gov/home/findanoffice . Or specifically for blind services try emailing blindinfo@dor.ca.gov or call 916-558-5480.

Many therapists work on a sliding scale so they can take low income clients at reduced rates. Websites like Psychology Today have decent search tools to start and simply searching on Google for "low income therapy los angeles" brings up some options. WILA has many options based on finances www.wila.org or 424-371-5191

You are welcome! Therapy is a good thing to do - and please don't get discouraged if the first therapist isn't a good match! It's just as important as finding a doctor you like or a hair stylist who suits your personality. Good luck!
