Did Anyone See the "Euthanize" Post? (self.Blind)

I didn't see the post, but I can only imagine it was a troll.

To be honest, the kind of terrible person who goes out of their way to troll anyone with disabilities like that is only a couple of baby steps away from the kind of person that would actually consider euthanizing others because they aren't the same as them in some way (race, location, ideology etc). Which says a lot about their lack of empathy and moral character. That to say, either way there are horrible people out there, but fortunately they are generally too cowardly to act on their claimed convictions.

I'm sorry that some piece of shit went out of their way to act like a piece of shit and hurt your feelings. I lost my vision at 35 (about 6 months ago) and I understand the difficulty of dealing with this that you are experiencing.

Try not to let some feeble minded lunatic steal your happiness. Because it's already in short supply, and you deserve to keep whatever happiness you can find.

The post was removed and the poster was banned. We have a zero tolerance for that crap.

Oh youre a mod?

Did y'all see my message?
Winnmark 9 points 2y ago
"blind people should be shot on sight".

okay, the dude is obviously a low life, but you have to admit, that pun is actually pretty good.

Though, to answer your question, I wouldn't say the disabled community is as discriminated as some might point out, but there definitely is some discrimination. A friend's Mom is in a wheelchair, once she was at the gym and the guy told her to leave because she wasn't even human, due to the fact she couldn't walk.

It's not unheard of, but I wouldn't say it's a daily thing either.

The most important part of humor and especially dark humor is the right place and the right audience.

There could be a place and context where that joke would have been funny, but I doubt this sub is such a place and the people here are most likely not the right audience.

So no, the pun was not good.
Winnmark 1 points 2y ago
Well, my phone here says I got 10 up votes, so at least 9 other people either appreciated my comment or the fact that I pointed out the pun.

Also, humor is relative; therefore, it is possible that I'll find something funny when you'll find it disagreeable.

Chill out bro.

Honestly I’d find that post amusing. Someone really hates a section of humanity, people they don’t even know, so much that they want us dead. Ok, while they think this I’m going to live the best life I can.

I’d not let posts like this bother you.
brumeloss 4 points 2y ago
Someone hating on a marginalized group? Sounds like the entirety of human history!
RJHand 2 points 2y ago
Lol, I'd say it was a troll based on all the crap I've seen like that on other subs. Who knows though. I've not seen the post either so theres that.
Rahawk02 2 points 2y ago
I didn’t see it but I assume it was a poor attempt a a joke. Shot on site . Get it sight har har. There are some people like that both of my parents are blind and my dad tells me that the drs recommended I’d be aborted because of the high chance I would be too.
bradley22 2 points 2y ago
Lovely doctors.
Envrin 2 points 2y ago

Yeah, lots of ultra right-wing facists going around right now. Folks like Trump, Borish Johnson, and others are emboldening them.

Just stay strong, and keep your head up. It's not their falt they were raised to be full of hate and ignorance, nor is it their fault they have the IQ level of a gerbil.
bradley22 1 points 2y ago
What’s Boris done?
Envrin 2 points 2y ago

Just all that right-wing nationalistic pandering. Going to result in the UK economy tanking due to no deal brexit, he flouts international law in regards to EU and Norther Ireland as if the UK is too good to abide, deporting immigrants against the EU Human Right's laws while blaming immigrants for the country's woes, and just all around "British pride!" rhetoric.

That type of pandering to the lowest common denominator of society only emboldens ignorance and racism, as very well observable within the US over the past while.
bradley22 1 points 2y ago
Oh wow, I don't watch the news, I find it depressing. I knew he was an idiot but didn't know how low he'd go. Has he outrite stated imigrents are the problem in this country?

That kind of mindset is horrible. I'll admit, I do think the british people should get houses before imigrents, and feel bad thinking that, but we were here first and all that rot, but it's thanks to these amazing people that we have: cleaners, 75 to perhaps even 95 percent of our shops, mades for the ritch (if that's a thing here,) and more amazing food than I can eat in a lifetime.

I don't understand the bit about the EU and Irish laws, can you explain it a bit more or give me links? Thanks.

Aww, I'm curious now. What'd it say?
bradley22 2 points 2y ago
Me too, me too :p

I did not see the post, and I am upset by it now that I heard of it.
Superfreq2 1 points 2y ago
It made me laugh, because it was just so over the top. Rolled right off honestly... It's not like this person's opinion matters in any way that could harm me or the community at large anyway so.
Really though OP, why highlight it after the problem was already dealt with? It just gives power to it.
ratadeacero 1 points 2y ago
Trolls going to troll. I wouldn't worry about it
weirdlywondering1127 1 points 2y ago
I didn't see it but that's pretty twisted even if it was a troll.

Shot on *sight* though??? W o w
Definitely sounds like a troll.

What did the post actually say? Does anyone have a brief summary, slightly more detailed than OPs?

I'm genuinely curious and honestly don't know whether to laugh at the stupidity of it or be annoyed that someone could be that stupid and hateful

The anonymity of the internet used to cloak those who would speak to discriminate disabled and other groups, but with today's political climate it is sad to say that discrimination has been catapulted to the mainstream. So many these days are willing to be completely open about their discrimination because it is now "cool" to speak ill of people because of their race, disability, body size or sexual orientation. On top of the empowering of these people, we have active trolls and bots from various political powers that work non-stop to add fuel to this fire.

This isn't going to change overnight, and this is not the first time this has happened. If you have been visually impaired (non-white, plus-sized etc.) for any part of your life like I have, I can guarantee that this isn't the first time you have experienced discrimination or downright evil from people. It doesn't matter who is in political power, and that is not what this post is about, rather it is about those who get their jollies off of discriminating against people that have been given a very big voice these days. This is a big part due to the media coverage and the fact that this sort of behavior is covered without the "this is not ok" reaction. Again not to make this political, but the first thing that comes to my mind is the US president making fun of a disabled reporter, and the clip was met with shock instead of the outrage it should have garnered. If you don't like your current political climate, make sure to vote and voice your opinion. I don't care which party you support, just make sure to take the time and let your voice be heard.

This climate is going to get better, not right away - but it will get better. Trolls are part of the internet and that will never change. Some people just spend their days looking for something to do and for some that thing is spreading hatred. Take it with a grain of salt, realize that freedom of speech comes at a cost. While the world is ok with discrimination and belittling of marginalized groups be wary of where you spend your time on the internet. This group is a safe space, and you need to trust in the mods and their vigilance to get rid of unacceptable content.

This will get better. Support each other while we get through this bump in the road of life.
GodOfEmus 1 points 2y ago
I saw the post. I am sorry to hear it upset you so, but I really wouldn't worry about it too much. It seemed like it was just some visually impaired and also potentially incel guy who couldn't cope with his self-hatred, based on his other posts.

Hopefully he gets the help he needs, but there's not much one can do over Reddit.
Laser_Lens_4 1 points 2y ago
Oh yeah, one of those assholes. Sometimes I see posts like that before they get removed, but not this one. We get a lot of those in the trans subreddits as well. They're not totally unheard of, but I think it's important to keep the perspective that most people don't think that way. the ones that usually do are usually too cowardly or powerless to actually act on those kinds of thoughts. At the end of the day, they're just some asshole nut job. They always seem to come out of the woodwork around election season.

Are the mods able to confirm if the ISP was based in Russia? We already know their leadership has a massive workforce dedicated to troll people online with the goal of creating public discontent.

No didn't saw it. But from your description it reminds me of Nazi propaganda ideology and concentration Germans camps. In Germany around WW1 and WW2 unlucky ones were sent to concentration camps, after that time there was propaganda about 'special schools or places' where disabled children or people could happily live taken care off. The truth was they were forced to sterilization without their will, there were medical experiments and family couldn't bring back them home from such institute. In cinemas, TV's disabled were shown as "monsters inhumane beings" so it might stay in minds of some old brainwashed people? Or even younger ones, why Nazism didn't died out, why this and such similar things are "alive"? Especially in Germany, there are some educational talks about it and films but in every town big or small it's there... This documentary film was for me shocking how disabled people were portrayed, seen and treated after WWs. I may find the title if someone's interested.
