What i think of IOS 14. (self.Blind)
submitted by bradley22
After my phone didn't inform me that I had an update I thought I'd chec it, I then download IOS 14 to check out the reading and image fuctions.

Once it was downloaded and set up I went into settings and voiceover and set up all the image and raeding stuff.

My thoughts so far: the reading stuff is ok but seeing AI is better.

The image stuff works ok.

The widget stuff is alright, I checked out the weather one, but asking siri is quicker.

How is the feature that is supposed to recognise clickable control buttons on the screen?

Also, what is this years massive VO bug? We almost always get one now.
Nighthawk321 1 points 2y ago
The massive VO bug this year is noticeable lag when using VO. I and many others have experienced it. A fix for now is to go to settings/accessibility/voiceover/speech and add English as a second language and switch to it in your rotor.

I don't know the answer to both those questions, sorry.

I'd avoided betas this time round but regret that now.
VO has just got chattier - I don't need to hear "tool bar" when I'm on one anymore than I need to hear "dock" or "actions available" everywhere.

Braille screen input has also become slower because space is announced between words when you type with echo on. Very irritating for those people who like character echo. I'm lucky to be accvrate enough without - but it really lags people just learning sadly.

Cool so it's not just me who was thrown by VO suddenly announcing the space when I type in braille. I had to eventually give in and set it to word echo only.

Driving me nuts as well!

I think this could be to do with readying voiceover to run on the ARM based macs which will need containers to navigate. My friend tried to explain it technically to me but I’ve forgotten the details of it. This in regards to the voiceover being chattier.
BlindGuyNW 1 points 2y ago
You can turn off the announcements for containers in verbosity settings, if you weren’t aware.

Yeah I get that, it doesn't bother me that much but if you feel strongly about it; sign up next time.

This stuff should hopefully be fixed in an update or two.

I agree with you on most of this. All I can say is it lags hard on my iphone 10R.

Hi! Go to settings>accessibility>VoiceOver>speech, then at the bottom of the screen tap "add language." Add your primary language, so for me I added US English, with the same voice I always use. Then, turn your rotor to language, and swipe down with one finger. This resolved the slowness for me! I know it's not ideal but whatever works for now, right? Happy to answer any other questions if you're having trouble with it!

Then you might have to downgrade.

Or I think you can read on applevis or something where you choose a second voice and it doesn't lag with that voice, although i'm not sure.

For me, there's not much lag.

Hi there keep in mind screen recognition is the earliest feature, since this is the first release refinements will be done
bradley22 [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Oh I know :)

It's not a bad feature at all and will be improved apon.
Sagar5786 2 points 2y ago
This is actually a major major feature, when it comes to accessibility, which device are you on? Apparently I'm on the iPhone X so I will not get it plus I haven't even upgraded I'm planning to get the iPhone 12 once it is released.
bradley22 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Oh I know, it's a great feature.

I think the IPhone x has it, but I'm unsure.

I think I have the IPhone 10 or 11.
Sagar5786 2 points 2y ago
The iPhone X does not have this feature it's only available for iPhone XS and higher devices meaning those devices which are equipped with A12 and higher devices.
