Reddit's Internal Chat via Screen Reader?(self.Blind)

There's always been this small number within Reddit somewhere in the header, and it sometimes increases. I assumed it was maybe a Drafts folder, for when I'm writing a post but close the browser tab before actually posting it.

Low and behold, I recently realized this is online chat within Reddit! I go check it out, and realize there's a bunch of people offering me work / contracts for software development. This would have been handy to know during the months I was banging my head on the wall, wondering why I couldn't find any work. The joys of being blind.

Anyway, to the point... now I know it's for live chats, got it. However, it's horrendous to navigate via screen reader, or at least for me it is. I get placed into one main developer chat room, then I scroll up a bunch and enter some list of people who have initiated a chat with me. I can click on of them, then scroll REALLY far down to see that specific chat window.

However, when I have like 20 chats going, that list at the top that contains messages and links of people who have initiated a chat with me doesn't hold them all. I get maybe 8 people at the most, so I'm still missing some. I can get that number of unread chats down to 16, but that's it. Every chat I just tell them to please either send me a DM via Reddit, e-mail or, or add me to WhatsApp. Of course though, nobody listens and they still keep sending message svia the online chat.

Any tips from other blind folks on how to navigate Reddis' internal chat via screen reader? I'm using Orca screen reader on LINUX if that matters any. I think the keyboard shortcuts and functionality is pretty close to NVDA though.

Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to use old.reddit on your computer or the Dystopia beta on iOs. You can find the latter at r/dostopiaForReddit

Hey, how well does that screenreader work? I've been thinking about making the switch from Mac

Works great. At least I don't have any problems with it.

For LINUX, I have $1 MATE 64 bit edition (Cinnamon edition wouldn't work for me), and I love it.

I've been using it a bit recently and yes it is utterly hideous. I keep trying to get people to Skype me.

Well, glad to know I'm not the only one at least.

Can't the Reddit developers take a page from Facebook, or something? Now FB Messenger I can anvigate like a champion.

I'm going to go bug the development team. People seem to like Reddit's chat a fair bit, and I'm losing out on money here. Who knows, maybe they can just contract out to me, and I'll develop an accessible chat system for them.
