Hello r/Blind community!

My name is Brad and I am a legally blind Salesforce administrator at a Denver based non-profit called the Blind Institute of Technology. I want to take a few minutes with this post and tell you all about who we are and what we do. It is my hope that we can partner with some of you, whether you be job seekers, social entrepreneurs, or traditional employers.

The Blind Institute of Technology™ (abbreviated as BIT) is an organization with boots on the ground in the Denver metro area working hard to advance the professional opportunities for people with disabilities. We’re a small, passionate team with a dynamic blend of backgrounds, experiences, and motivations, doing whatever we can to get the job done. At the moment, our current team is legally or completely blind, except for the wife of our executive director, Mike Hess. Our message is that professionals with disabilities possess skills and abilities that corporations have overlooked or have yet to discover, all that is needed is assistive technology, education, and an opportunity. Our strategy is to go directly to the C-suites of corporate America to provide a guiding hand into a successful diverse and inclusive culture. Our end goal is always employment. We treasure the moments when someone gets or gives the good news, “You’re Hired!” We look forward to the day when all of corporate America is equipped to welcome people with disabilities into an environment where they can explore the same employment opportunities as their peers.

To accomplish our mission, we provide services to both job seekers and organizations. For the former, we assist in interview preparation, resume and cover letter building, and offer certification courses that are screen reader accessible at no costs to our BIT candidates. To provide my own personal anecdote, I connected with BIT in Fall 2019, went through the typical candidate process, and was told of a job opportunity only a few weeks later. However, I had found my own employment in that time, so I stayed in touch with BIT and transitioned to enrolling in their Salesforce Administrator class in Spring 2020. Through their support, I was able to complete the Trailhead content and take the Salesforce Admin exam twice completely free, passing on the second attempt. When working with organizations, our services include the previously described staffing services as well as accessibility audits and workshops of various topics. Recently, we've begun working with other non-profits both in the US and abroad to help them integrate and implement their organization's Salesforce instance. Some of our more notable partnerships include Fortune 1000 companies like Salesforce, Fidelity, Charter, and Aetna CVS, and non-profits such as Red Cross, Dry Bones Denver, and Project SOAR of Morocco, so, I am confident in saying that regardless of where you are in the world, we can very likely help you out in your professional pursuits.
