Accessibility of Alarm.com, Vivint or other security system? (self.Blind)
submitted by bondolo
We've used a talking $1 for more than 20 years but it is obsolete and we need to finally buy a new control panel and replace the remotes. All of the new systems seem to use your smartphone instead of a remote which would be great except, of course, for the issue of accessibility.

Anybody using the Alarm.com, Vivint or other apps that can comment on their accessibility and utility for a blind person?

Ideally the system would provide both security, heating, lights and garage door control, but only security is essential.

Followup edit: We ended up getting $1 through an alarm company reseller. The touch screen panel is entirely unusable but the iOS and Android apps work quite well and the accessibility is pretty good. It also has some integration with Google Home so that we can partially control it using our smart speakers. The same is also available for Alexa and Siri.

We have an Alarm.com/Brinks IQPanel and once it's set up, the app is decently accessible and usable in iOS. It also syncs up with google home so I can ask the speakers to arm the system. The Brinks or Alarm.com widget shows up on the first page of the iOS home screen and it's simple to disarm and arm stay or arm away from there. I also have Siri shortcuts which are simple to set up within the app so I can have Siri control the system.
