What Luxury Products have failed you as a low vision person? Which are the most accessible? (self.Blind)
submitted by WickedThorn42
Hi!

I am a low vision person, and I was wondering what other low vision/blind people thought about the accessibility of luxury products! I am taking a Fashion Promotion class, so you will be helping me out by answering.

For example, I love that my Pantene Pro V has different colored shampoo and conditioner caps (which I can see) rather than just a label. But should they feel different too for even lower vision people?

Another example, Molly Burke, a blind YouTuber, just posted her review of this Keurig Mixed Drink Machine: $1. She loves her Keurig Coffe Machine because it allows her to easily make coffee, and has tactile buttons, but the Mixed Drink Machine had screens that she couldn't read, so she had to return it.

Has anything like this ever happened to you? How do you adjust products to make them more accessible?

Thanks in advance!

I love luxury products. It would be cool if a drink machine talked through screen reader or had buttons. My Iphone already has voiceover so I don't see why it couldn't work for luxury products. If I wanted to use an oven or cook something, I'd just buy a voice-activated oven. It's loads easier and it feels like you have staff.

Hahah I love the idea of pretending the oven was your cook, it's definitely something I would do! Thanks for your response.

Not a VI but I want to follow this thread as my job is related to UI/UX and disabilities. Would love to hear more examples and thought on product design!

Am curious - will you consider a machine fully operated with the screen (no tactile button) if it can connect to your screen reader and read it out loud for you?

Great comment I am curious about this too!

Hmm I’m not sure what products have failed me, but I love things that feel different. For example, the Benefit eyebrow mascara I have feels different from say, my lipsticks. Like it feels pointy where you twist to get the brush out. I would love it if skincare sets came in different sizes to indicate what’s the cleanser, toner, moisturiser etc, but that’s easy to distinguish with some sighted help and some hair elastics.

Thank you! Do you think you would be more likely to buy a product if it did feel different? Or if a skin care set had all unique bottles?
