Anyone have 'experience using TalkBack with Android TV? (self.Blind)
submitted by Prefect316
I'm really interested in the Envideo Shield. It runs Android and presumably has Talkback which I've never used before. My current media setup is all FireTv, which is mostly accessible, but the TV I own is so laggy I'd love a Shield.

The Apple TV seems good since I have a Mac and iPhone, but I really hate the remote and honestly would prefer the Envideo Shield at that price point.

Any thoughts? I know Android Tv is becoming Google TV soon. Maybe there will be new accessibility features on there.

I have an Apple TV, a shield and a Chromecast. And I would take the shield for the Apple TV any day. Using voice over, especially with third-party apps like Netflix, is a pain in the ass. But, I guess, it always depends on what you want to do with such a device. With the shield, you are much more flexible. Apps like Netflix, YouTube and, recently, prime video are very well accessible. You should know though, that there is no shortcut, to turn talk back off and on. At least, not a working one. Are use my shield for watching Netflix, prime video, and YouTube. I also use it, to stream content from my network server. It works great for me.
Also, something, that might be interesting for you is, that you won’t get your sound in 5.1 in prime video, when you use talkback. I reported that buck, but Amazon hasn’t done anything about it yet. Considering the fact, that it took them several years, to make their app on the shit accessible, I doubt, that this will change soon.

I finally bought the Nvidia shield! Is there a way to increase talkback's speaking rate?

Yes. You can do that in settings, system, accessibility, text to speech settings.

I have an android TV and talkback is good but not as good as apple tv. Perhaps try the new chromecast as it is rather low cost

That's another good option. Do you have a Chromecast? One thing I find on FireTv is it lags an awful lot, even with minimal apps installed on it.

Havent tried the new one yet as its not available in Canada yet but its based on Android TV. Perhaps get it from somewhere with good return policies
