How has COVID-19 impacted your guide dog application plans and your school’s weight times? (self.Blind)
submitted by TheBlindBookLover
Hi. I was planning to apply for a guide dog sometime within the next year. Considering the current state of the world, have any of you tried applying for a guide dog? If your school date landed during quarantine what took place? How has COVID-19 impacted your school’s weight times? Any advice on how to go about applying considering the unique state of the world is appreciated. I don’t even know if schools are accepting applications at this time.

I was in the beginning steps of the paperwork with the VA to go a school and potentially start working on getting one. But once Covid hit the VA stopped all non essential appointments or moved them to phone conversations instead. That was in March and I have yet to hear anything else from them in regards of wait times or even a possible date

I heard from university professors in the field that guide dog schools are accepting less people by far for safety. Best of luck
