One thing you might be expecting is iOS doesn’t scroll the same. It does everything in pages when you swipe with 3 fingers. I don’t think your fingers need to be in any position as long as there are 3 points of contact on the screen. You can generally swipe sideways with 1 finger to step through the available options in the screen. This can be really hopeful if you don’t know where things are located on the screen. Don’t turn on VoiceOver Recognition - screen recognition. It is not ready to be used with most apps. It will cause a lot of problems. The text and picture options with VoiceOver Recognition work really well though. You will want to look into the rotor and Braille screen input if you know Braille.

I’ve been blind my whole life and when the iPhone came out it was definitely a learning curve. Honestly stick with it you’ll get it. Also you may want to reach out to some assistive technology training! This also might make you feel at ease with things.

Thanks, and yes I'm planning on it! Everything's just been moving very slow because of the pandemic, hopefully when I see an eye specialist next week they can point me in the direction of services like assistive technology and O&M. Everything I've found online isn't running currently lol

To scroll, position three fingers vertically or horizontally, and move them together.

There are several ways to enter letters. The default way is t'o double-tap on each letter after it gains focus. A way that many people prefer is called Touch Typing Mode, where you slide your finger to the letter and release it to insert the letter.

Thank you, now that the screen is on I have been able to get help with the keyboard, still can't figure out the scrolling though. I thought it may have just been because of my arthritis but my friends who have much more "finger mobility"? than me also couldn't get it to work

What happens when you try to scroll? There are two-finger up and down gestures; do these work? You can modify gestures if they're difficult to perform.

It does nothing, my friend says every now and then it seems like its going to scroll but then it doesn't. Two fingers works fine,, I didn't realize I could modify gestures I'm going to try and do that. Thanks 😊

So when you swipe up with 3 fingers, it does nothing?

Are you using voiceover or zoom?
lovemoths 2 points 2y ago
Yes. Voiceover I think, I don't know what zoom is

Does your phone speak to you when you touch the screen?

Check out applevis.com I’m pretty sure there’s tutorials on there and podcasts there.
lovemoths 2 points 2y ago
Yes it does. Okay thank you 😊
bradley22 1 points 2y ago
That’s interesting that scrolling doesn’t work, what are you trying to scroll?
bradley22 1 points 2y ago
If you have whatsapp on your old phone I could call and help you out if you like?

You might have turned on $1.

>When Screen Curtain is on, your device and VoiceOver navigation stay active, even though your display is turned off. For example, if you want to check your bank account in a public place, Screen Curtain turns your screen off so that your information isn't visible.

>
> To turn Screen Curtain on or off by gesture:
>
> * $1.
> * With three fingers, quickly triple-tap the screen. If the Zoom feature is in use with VoiceOver, tap the screen four times with three fingers.
>
> If you use a bluetooth keyboard with your device, press Control-Option-Shift-S to turn Screen Curtain on or off.
