Keep in touch with your doctor about your eyes and your sight.

Contact your County or regional Blindness or Vision organization for help with these changes.

Look at the people around you, who can you count on for support when needed.. DO you need more help?

Begin learning about blindness aids, mobility and accessible technology that will help you going forward.

All the best wishes to you. You are not alone in this.

Find an opthalmologist and/or retina specialist. An optometrist is for glasses, not eye health. Though you already know what you have, a drastic change in a short amount of time means you need to contact a doctor. We are not doctors on here.

Contact your state's disability services to get help learning to adapt - they can teach you how to use a cane, adaptive technology, how to navigate public transit and more.

Here is the website for Texas: https://hhs.texas.gov/services/disability/blind-visually-impaired

Twink you have the right intention but Ophthalmologist can treat more and diagnose more vision issue more in-depth. they are trained medical doctors. Also considering what TX is going through it may be time to get with a neuro-Ophthalmologist and have the discussion about and MRI to rule out other impacts to your vision. I had a brain tumor severe my right optic nerve and damage my central optic nerve, it took that level of expertise to diag that.

It’s probably time for you to start looking into adapting, fast.

You’ll probably want some training on adapting to life with limited sight, and the state can get you that through the Texas Workforce Commission. Fair warning though, you’ll have to slog through their bureaucracy, but with persistence you can get the help you need. They can also point you to resources and help pay for adaptive equipment. They, along with some other organizations offer job training too to help you get working again, as TWC only provides services to those seeking a job or education or needing to keep current employment.

I have RP, some days are worse than others. Going from 0 to 100 in one day in one eye seems unusual. More likely the eye just passed a threshold for you to notice?

My only advice is always wear sunglasses around sunlight no matter how brief. This includes inside rooms with sunlight coming in through the windows. Anecdotally, sunlight avoidance seems to slow it dramatically.

What's your profession? It still might be possible that you can continue in your current job with right arrangements.

The Austin chapter of the National Federation of the Blind is very active in Austin, and I believe they have their chapter meetings on the second Saturday of the month via Zoom. They can help you find resources in the community. There is a rehab training center for the blind in Austin called CCRC and my advice is to go get training ASAP.

Get touch with fighting blindness for peer support and info on your eye condition, they're very good at dealing with the social side of visual impairment, my partner has RP and is working and involved with advocacy & policy to do with blindness here in Ireland.

Maybe you can consider seeking help from an occupational therapist.

Reach out to your local Division of Blind Services (DBS) and Lighthouse for the Blind. They can get you set up with training and services.
