Tips for self-administered injections. CW: medical stuff (self.Blind)
submitted by Laser_Lens_4
I've been using medicine patches for about a year now, and for various reasons, these things aren't going to work out long term. I'm already complementing them with stuff like tegaderm and rubbing alcohol and lotion, so I've been pretty thorough with trying to make them work. I want to try injections, but the only thing my pharmacy supplies are vials and needles, and as someone without sight who can't measure out doses or position a needle without touching, that just won't work. I've heard about OTC solutions that are easier to use, but I don't know which ones or where to even start. I've already had nurses give me the shots before. That ended the moment I discovered the shitty-nurse lottery. Does anyone here have experience with self administered intramuscular gluteal injections? I'm looking for something that can draw up precise doses and inject it easily and doesn't make me deal with needles while using it. Obviously, handling needles to replace them or for cleaning is okay. If I need a sighted person to help me set a dose initially, that's also okay, but something with maximum independence is preferred. This is something I'm willing to spend a lot of money on. Up to a few hundred, if necessary. I'll be injecting estradiol which tends to be fairly thick. I'm not sure if that would make a difference in what I should use, but I figure I should mention it, just in case.

Can your doctor prescribe individual doses? I have had to do IM shots for a few months at a time and was able to get capped syringes already measured out.

Could you get it put into a pen? Insulin and other meds can be put into pens now so you can hear the dosage by clicks as you twist it. The tips are disposable and quite easy to use.

Talk to your doctor or call the pharmacy and see if it is possible.
