What are your biggest issues with the Airport experience?(self.Blind)

When I ask for guided assistance to the gate weeks in advance, and then the staff show up with a fucking wheelchair. Then the LAX rep has the audacity to tell me that they're understaffed. Motherfucker, you have over 5 terminals and handle international flights on a daily basis.

Speaking as the partner of a blind person, when we travel together it's not too bad. I do have a funny story though...
We went to Gibraltar on holiday. When we came back, there are electronic passport gates that scan the chip in your passport then you line up with a camera that can check if you look like your passport photo. This isn't blind friendly at all so we headed for the manual queue, where all the non-EU passport holders go, but in our case there wasnt any queue because there hadn't been any real international flights.
So we made our way through this giant hall weaving through the barriers made to hold hundreds of people, and someone at the desk asks us why we are here, not noticing I was guiding him. I reply that he is blind. And this distracts me enough that I walk him right into a massive pillar in the middle of the queue. Bam!
So it was pretty obvious after that that my fiance is blind, and we got through no problem. But it was hilarious.

Wow. That’s a great story. Im sure he wasn’t too happy about that.
How could they have made the camera and gate more accessible for your husband?

Some electronic kiosks lack accessibility features. Many eye- and face-scanning devices don't work for people with prosthetic eyes.

That every single time they bring me a wheelchair. No, I can walk just fine.

1. They always bring a wheelchair regardless of your disability, even if you tell them you don't need it ahead of time. It just slows things down and frustrates everyone.
2. The carts that transport people between gates are great! But they often seem to be behind schedule and many of the drivers don't speak very good English or know how to deal with various disabilities.
3. TSA agents don't seem to be aware of the laws around mobility devices and would rather pull you through quickly than guide you properly. I get that they need to keep things moving, but they could do allot better.

I’ve never had any issues on the airport regarding my low vision.
The staff is friendly, I get to skip most lines and I’m allowed to pre-board most of the time! I don’t abuse the system, but it has come in handy several times!

My biggest issue is when I pre-advise the airline and request assistance in advance, then get to the airport, go to the desk and the airline hasn't told the assistance people.
Also, the wheelchair thing. Just stop it.

Can we agree that we will all refuse the damn wheelchair? Paging Molly Burke, you are undermining the revolution!
I've posted here before about trying to get into the USA when I have a US passport and my partner doesn't. We're supposed to go down different channels and they get very upset when we can't.
Best world airport, Tom Bradley terminal at LAX. Otherwise LAX is a nightmare. Worst world airport, Heathrow terminal 3. Unfortunately these places are often on opposite ends of the same trip for me so it sort of averages out.
Bonus prize for least friendly immigration people: O'Hare in Chicago.

I've never really had issues with airports, I always call ahead and try to make sure I have a guide at the airport to help me through security and help me with my luggage. The only main issue I have is asking for help getting my correct suitcase from the luggage carousel.
CloudyBeep1 points2y ago
Consider using an audible luggage locator.

thanks a lot, did not even consider that I could get a beeper installed on my suitcase.
