People thinking your cane is part of your Halloween costume (self.Blind)
submitted by Cheezepretzels
I just wanna say that Halloween is my favorite time of the year, but as my condition has progressively worsened, I ended up having to eventually use a cane. I’ve had my cane on me for a few years now, including on Halloween. Though, for some reason, when I do dress up during this time of the year and have a cane, people think it’s part of my costume. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

This wasn't for Halloween, but I had a client who went to Fanexpo (basically a massive nerd convention) as a Jedi, and people thought his cane was a lightsaber. He ended up just going with it.

I literally came here to suggest "might as well roll with it, and be Darth Vader with a cane-lightsaber."!

Funny enough, I did bring my cane to one con, but for the duration of it, I didn’t use it. (My vision wasn’t as bad then) But when I went to other events for Halloween, people always assumed it was part of my costume lol.

Maybe it just went with your costume? If you were dressed up as a mouse, that might make sense ;)

Haha I probably did not help with this stigma as I once went to Comic Con as Daredevil Matt Murdock, and then people were asking about my cane and so I laughed and told them that I was blind in real life. My brother and I had a great day then.

Reminds me of the times that people asked me if I could see better in the dark lol. Glad you had a good time though! Comic Con is super fun!
