Blind Community? (self.Blind)
submitted by feckinthrowawayacc
I feel like we're all kind of spread out, but there's enough of a blind community that I've heard the phrase before.

What are things I can do to become active in the blind community, both during the COVID precautions era and otherwise? Is there anything interesting about the community that I could at least look into?

What are your interests? It helps to know what stuff you like, and meet others with similar interests or goals.

I'm interested in a lot of things, honestly.

Recreational sports, ballet, theatre, art, medicine, TV shows, psychology, doll collecting, writing, hiking, camping, video games, Japanese fashion...

Jack of all trades, master of none, I guess.

Definitely a number of people here like video games, movies and TV shows.

I am a bit cautious about this. I didn't have any blind friends when I could see, and I don't really now. I don't look for friends just because they're blind, other than if I've specifically been asked to mentor someone which I think has been really valuable in the past.

It's fun to hang out with people of a like mind but I wouldn't make it the be all, end all.

Honestly, groups like here and Blind Pen Pals on Facebook are pretty good. If your vision impairment centre has groups, even through the phone, that’s also good. And maybe look into blind sporting groups.
