University Research Project - Vision aid applications accessibility (self.Blind)
submitted by JackStanleyMorley
Hi Reddit,

I'm am currently working on a research project at the University of Lincoln (UK) , evaluating touch screen mobile device accessibility in vision aid applications for visually impaired users. This research requires me to interview visually impaired participants on their experiences with vision aid applications.

If you would be interested in a short (approximately 30 minutes) interview, via phone, or online call, I have left a google forms link, or can be contacted for more details at:
jmorley@lincoln.ac.uk or through Reddit messages

Best wishes, Jack

I'd be happy to do an interview, but I'm confused as to what a "visual aid application" is exactly.

Are we talking about something like Aira where you connect to a sighted person with a video link? Or maybe an OCR/image recognition app like Seeing AI? Do color identifiers or GPS/mapping apps count? Or do you simply mean magnifiers. What about lower level adaptations like screen readers, braille software keyboards, and apps which interface with AR glasses.

Sorry for the vague wording, me and my supervisory team deemed it more useful to leave the interpretation to the participant, as if I framed the question it could lead users down the wrong path. all applications you've listed could be considered a visual aid application and feedback on the accessibility on any of which would be valuable for the research.

My research however is centered primarily on OCR, these interviews are for requirements analysis of general mobile device accessibility. Thankyou very much for your response, would it be okay if I directly message you with more details on the study and potentially an interview?

I understand. Maybe a shortlist of ideas, with a modifier like "ETC" or "and more" would work?

As for a DM and interview, I'd be happy to! I think I'll fill out the form too though just to make it easier for your records.
